Whitgift School, Croydon

Printed Blinds add Colour and Interest to Science Labs in School

Whitgift School is an independent day and boarding school for boys in South Croydon, London, founded in 1596.  Originally located in North End, Croydon, it moved to its current site in 1931. The school is situated in the beautiful and historic grounds of Haling Park and offers high education standards, being rated as the No.1 All Boys School in the UK Top Independent IB Schools League Table for 2019.

The Requirement:

We were asked by specialist contractors Labform to provide blinds to science labs at Whitgift School as part of a refurbishment project at the school, including for some of the blinds to be printed.

Waverley manufactured, supplied and installed ShadeTech RBL-C Roller Blinds in DeltaBlock 40 PVC blackout fabric.  DeltaBlock 40 fabric is recommended for this type of classroom environment, being completely opaque so allowing no light ingress, and also hardwearing and wipe clean.  It also can be printed successfully.

The Installation:

Whitgift School opted for printed blinds at 9 no. of the lab windows, providing us with an interesting selection of images for the blinds to be printed with, including the periodic table and some with the school name and logo.

The Benefits: Form with Function

In classrooms such as science labs where the blinds are down for so much of the time, this was an imaginative use of space, utilising the window areas and adding colour and interest.

The School’s aims include: ‘To strive for excellence in all aspects of school life, promoting a culture of achievement and the celebration of achievement’ and ‘To provide a stimulating and life-enhancing environment in which to live, learn and appreciate our heritage’.   We feel this refurbishment fits in well with the Whitgift ethos!

Waverley also supplied and installed blockout roller blinds to lab doors to cover door vision panels when required.
