Keble College – University of Oxford

Maintenance free panel glide blinds for Keble College - University of Oxford

Waverley were called in by the estates department to recommend a maintenance-free solar shading solution that would provide privacy and dim-out. Existing vertical blinds could not withstand the rigours of student use and were proving to be a costly (£10,000 p.a.) maintenance nightmare as well as looking untidy from the outside.

The client wanted a system with as few moving parts as possible, ideally without any cords or chains and a system that could work on pitched as well as vertical glazing. Electric blinds was not an option as the building is listed.

The Silent Gliss 2700 Panel Glide system was selected. Comprising of an aluminium top track with a series of separate channels, individual flat fabric panels velcro fastened to wheeled head bar run in parallel channels and are drawn across the window with a hand held wand attached to the leading panel. On sloping windows a track has been installed on the bottom of the glazing as well, and the fabric fixed to wheeled bars top and bottom.

The system is easy to operate, has only one moving part (wheeled runners) and has no cords or chain. In addition the removable damaged and dirty fabric panels can be quickly and easily replaced.
