Epsom College

Robust Roller Blinds with Printed Stripe to match House Colours installed to School Boarding Houses

Epsom College is one of the leading private secondary schools in the UK offering an excellent standard of education to over 900 boys and girls aged 11-18. Recent investment by the school includes an extensive refurbishment of the student’s boarding and day houses.
Waverley were called in to advise on the most suitable room darkening solution for the student bedrooms. Previous roman blind systems installed were not fit for purpose and had resulted in costly and disruptive ongoing repairs.
Finding window blinds that can withstand the ‘robust’ environment of a school boarding house is a challenge faced by many facilities managers. Waverley’s Draper Flexshade® XD Roller Blind System has a number of design features which make it easily the most durable blind on the market. The pressed steel brackets and the ball bearing side chain mechanism ensure that a 25 year guarantee is quite reasonable.

Blinds with a 25 year Guarantee

Following on from the success that other private schools with boarding facilities have had with the Draper® roller blind system, Waverley recommend the same for Epsom College. The 25 year guarantee ensures that the college will not have unexpected maintenance costs for many years.
Waverley manufactured and installed Draper Flexshade XD Roller Blinds with side chain control to all windows in bedrooms and communal areas. The blinds were made with ThetaBlock 60 dimout fabric to provide maximum room darkening and privacy. The fabric benefits from a white backing helping reduce the effects of solar gain by reflecting light and heat away from the building interior.

Blinds Printed to match House Colours

A really neat design feature that Epsom College incorporated was to have the fabric colours of every blind printed with a vertical coloured stripe to match the corporate house colour of each building. Technology in printing made this a very easy and cost-effective way of using blinds to promote the school ‘house system’.
Whilst exceptionally robust, the Draper system is also discreet. The brackets and roller are concealed behind a white powder coated aluminium fascia making the blind almost unnoticeable when not in use. The bottom hem bar is completely concealed inside a welded fabric pocket. In order to comply with BS EN13120 child safety regulations, all control chains are fitted with chain retainers.
