Dulwich College

Bespoke single blind for the wide expanse glass in Dulwich College

Dulwich College is an independent school for boys in South East London. Grimshaw Architects designed a new building called ‘The Laboratory’.

The Laboratory provides superb teaching accommodation, wrapping around two major congregation spaces. Upper school laboratories surround a three-storey atrium, the fourth glazed side affording views of the iconic listed college buildings.

A solar shading solution capable of covering a wide expanse of glass with a single blind was called for. The architect wanted to reduce glare but maintain a view of the college lawns and war memorial.

ShadeTech RBXL-G roller blinds with geared crank rod operation were used with Betascreen 30 fabric. Each blinds was approx 4.4m wide x 3.2m drop. The geared crank operation allows these blinds to be operated easily.
